KIKO
GOATS

WHY RAISE KIKOS?
There are many breeds of goats to choose from, but our choice
has been the Kiko. They are not a pretty goat, most are white in color, and less fat in
the butt area, but they yield just as much or more meat than any other goat of different
breeds.
We have found less worming problems, hoof trimming, and
the does are great mothers. We have never had to pull a kiko, but have a boer, I have lost
boer goats to worming problems, the kiko can sustain a much greater worm load. A kiko buck
can cover twice as many does as a boer and there is not all the rituals, the kiko just goes to
work. They will browse, even in the winter to find food. We have found the boer is
always waiting to be fed.
Everyone needs to pick the goat you will enjoy raising the
most, but when going for a meat goat we suggest the kiko. Additional
facts as to why I like the Kiko, and I may be repeating myself, but I find these points important
enough to reiterate:
1. Speed of Growth. A rapid rate of
growth
2. Does have improved fertility over herd
average
3. Twinning ability is a significant characteristic of
the does
4. Enhanced nutritional availability for
offspring
5. Kiko kids exhibit great vigor from birth and the Kiko
also has an extended breeding season. The Kiko demonstrates an ability to breed all year
long
6. Ease of maintenance with minimal input
7. Soundness of feet
8. Easy care kidding
9. Enhanced male virility. A single male can cover
up to five hundred females in an extended season
